Artist's Description

The word "monster" comes from the Latin verb "monstrare": "to show." This gentler meaning of the word applies better to the octopus ever since the demonstration of its high degree of intelligence. Provided with this knowledge, perhaps we will discover greater kinship and common ground with life outside our species:

"Who shall say what prospect life offers to another? Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant? ..... I know of no reading of another's experience so startling and informing as this would be." -- Thoreau
